What dual extraction means and why it matters

Lion's Mane contains two distinct classes of active compounds: hericenones (found in the fruiting body, soluble in alcohol) and erinacines (found in the mycelium, soluble in water). A hot water extraction alone captures the beta-glucans and polysaccharides but misses the hericenones. Dual extraction - water followed by alcohol, with the alcohol subsequently removed and the extract concentrated and spray-dried back to powder - captures both. Four Sigmatic uses wood-grown fruiting bodies only, which have a higher hericenone concentration than mycelium-on-grain products.
