Unplug is Motion Nutrition's night time nootropic - a clean capsule designed for people whose minds don't get the memo when their bodies want to wind down. You know the pattern: exhausted by 10pm, wide awake by 11, mentally rehearsing tomorrow's calendar at midnight. Unplug is built for that.
It pairs a soothing blend of botanical extracts with three EU-recognised minerals - Magnesium, Zinc and Iodine - in their most bio-available forms. Magnesium contributes to the normal functioning of the nervous system and helps reduce tiredness and fatigue. Zinc contributes to normal cognitive function and helps protect cells from oxidative stress. Iodine supports normal thyroid hormone production - quietly important for sleep, since thyroid balance shapes how the body regulates rest.
What's actually in it?
The formula is built around four well-studied botanicals, each chosen for a specific role in the wind-down process:
- L-Theanine (150mg) - an amino acid found in tea leaves. A randomised, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial found that four weeks of L-Theanine at 200mg/day reduced scores on the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index - specifically sleep latency, sleep disturbance and reliance on sleep medication. Unplug's dose sits comfortably within the studied range.
- Ashwagandha Root (100mg) - an adaptogen used in Ayurvedic medicine for centuries. A 60-day randomised, double-blind, placebo-controlled study reported significant reductions in morning cortisol levels in adults taking standardised Ashwagandha extract - cortisol being the hormone most likely to keep you wired when you'd rather not be.
- Montmorency Cherry (100mg) - one of the few foods that naturally contains melatonin. A 2012 randomised, double-blind crossover trial in the European Journal of Nutrition found that tart cherry concentrate raised urinary melatonin markers and increased total sleep time and sleep efficiency in healthy adults.
- Magnesium Citrate (100mg, 27% RDA) - one of the better-absorbed magnesium forms. A double-blind, placebo-controlled trial on adults with primary insomnia found magnesium supplementation improved sleep efficiency, sleep time and sleep onset latency, alongside changes in serum melatonin and cortisol markers.
Supporting these are Bacopa monnieri, Rhodiola rosea, Amla, Zinc Picolinate, Iodine and a small dose of Bioperine® black pepper extract, which helps absorption of the other ingredients.

What happens when people actually take it?
In 2020, Motion Nutrition ran a two-month in-house trial tracking their team's sleep with Whoop wearable bands - one month off Unplug, one month on. It isn't a randomised clinical study, and they're upfront about that, but the in-house trials returned excellent results: meaningful increases in REM sleep and total sleep time across the group, with no withdrawal effects when the supplement was stopped. What it isn't
Unplug isn't melatonin in a tablet, and it isn't a sedative. Melatonin isn't sold as a food supplement in Ireland or the EU - it's classified as a medicine and requires a prescription. Unplug works by giving the body the building blocks and signals it uses to wind down naturally, rather than overriding the system. That matters if you want something you can take regularly without grogginess the next morning or any of the dependency concerns that come with sleep medication.
It's vegan, gluten-free, and contains no synthetic novel ingredients - every component is a recognisable food or food-derived extract.
How to take it
Two capsules in the evening, around 30-60 minutes before bed, with a glass of water. At 2 capsules per day, the 60-capsule bottle is a 30-day supply - one month of consistent use, which is also roughly the window in which the studies above started showing measurable effects. Most people don't get an instant first-night transformation; the formula is designed to be taken nightly over several weeks.

Who's it for?
Unplug suits people who fall into one of three camps: chronic over-thinkers who can't switch the brain off, shift workers and parents whose sleep windows are short and need to count, and anyone who wants to avoid pharmaceutical sleep aids but still wants something with real ingredients behind it. We sell a lot of it to Irish professionals in their 30s and 40s, but it's not age-specific.
